Pod Lamp

Idea: create a lamp that is a pulsing pod with tendrils that light up.

Execution: a little harder than expected as it was difficult to find flexible tubing that could be used to cover the LED tendrils - leaving the LEDs bare is not very aesthetically pleasing!

UPDATE 23 Feb 2017: THIS PROJECT IS CURRENTLY ON PAUSE

Initial sketches

Starting with a square base made from plywood

The 3D printed pod gets LEDs split that are connected by a longer wire - this was so that the LEDs could be glued into each half before glueing the two halves together.

Initially a square base with a strong frame was tried, but a round base with more organic-shaped curvy tendrils suited it better.

Rounded curvier shapes look better in this design. The tendril flexi-tube looked nice but didn't disguise the LEDs enough, so back to the drawing board for this lamp!
